| Traffic police rural Jammu holds symposium in GDC Kathua | | |  Early Times Report
KATHUA, Sept 7: Traffic Police Rural Jammu today on 07.09.2026 conducted an Awareness Programme-cum-Symposium at Government Degree College (GDC) Kathua on the theme "Safety Begins with Responsibility, Not Enforcement." The programme was organised in view of the growing involvement of two-wheelers in road accidents in recent times and as part of the ongoing 02-weeks Enforcement-cum-Awareness Drive against traffic violations by Two-Wheeler.
The Programme, which was held in the conference Hall of Govt Degree College Kathua, was co-chaired by Sh. Farooq Qaiser, JKPS SSP Traffic Rural, Jammu and Dr. Manohar Lal, Principal, GDC Kathua was attended by faculty and students of Govt Degree College Kathua and Traffic Police. At the outset, DySP Traffic Samba-Kathua welcomed the participants and briefed them about the theme of the programme. Subsequently, 14 participants presented their views during the symposium. SSP Traffic Rural, Jammu, delivered a detailed presentation covering various aspects of road safety, e-Challaning procedure and need for involvement of public in preventing accidents Besides, he also sensitized the participants about important Central and UT Govt welfare schemes with regard to road accidents which include, PM Rahat Scheme, Compensation for Hit and Run Motor Accidents victims Scheme 2025, J&K Road Accident Scheme Fund Rule 2022 etc.
A jury comprising of Prof. Neelam Bhagat, Prof. Neeraj Sharma and Prof. Rash Paul adjudged the participants. Rahul Thakur, Suman Sharma and Abhishek secured the first, second and third positions respectively. Mementos were presented to the winners as well as to the Principal, GDC Kathua, by the Traffic Police. Speaking on the occassion, SSP Traffic Rural, Jammu said that the campaign aims to educate road users, particularly young riders, about the importance of following traffic rules and adopting safe riding practices. He also appealed the public, especially two-wheeler riders, to cooperate with the drive, comply with traffic regulations and contribute towards making roads safer for all. The participants were informed about these provisions so that potential road-accident victims and their families can avail themselves of the available benefits. A Pledge regarding observance of Traffic rules was also administered to the participants. |
