Suicide! The word ‘suicide’ is in the spotlight these days. Suicides have been happening all along; it is not as though they were not occurring before, but today, every second someone in the world attempts to take their own life. Suicides happen due to ignorance. If the light of knowledge shines forth—revealing that no one truly takes birth or dies—suicides can be prevented. When energy enters the body, it is called birth, and when it leaves the body, it is called death. You have come into this body to travel. We must understand the game of life: why have we received this body-form instrument? Am I a mother, father, son, daughter, brother, sister, husband or wife? When we have no understanding of who we truly are, sorrow and disturbance are bound to come. When sadness becomes too much, a person thinks, “Let me just die.”
But who are we killing? It took immense hard work for the One who created us in our mother’s womb over nine months. And the One who is making this body to function is profoundly precious. What can we create on our own? We can’t create anything from a single strand of hair to a toenail—we are like a beggar. Everything has been given to us for free. Yet, we fail to understand life itself, and the value of this physical body, which is priceless.
If we think of harming it, Yamaraj (God of death) waits ahead. He will surely question: “How could you destroy this precious body? Did it belong to you? Did you buy it from somewhere?” You received everything for free; this physical body does not belong to you. Recognise who gave it to you. You may call Him Shri Ram, Shri Krishna, Buddha, Jesus, Prophet Muhammad, Kabir, Farid, Guru Nanak Dev, Ramkrishna Paramhamsa, Sai Baba, Meer bai, Sahajo bai, Lalla Bai, Lao tse, or Socrates! Who were all these great souls? They were human beings just like us. They understood during their lives that this physical body was not their own, and they returned it back to God. When they realised this truth, they said, “I have made a grave mistake in considering it mine; please forgive me.”
An act of ‘suicide’ signifies a terrible deed, not just on this earth but in the entire universe. Whatever wrong act one may commit in life, all the consequences are nothing as compared to suicide. Committing suicide is the biggest sin in the entire universe. If you harm this physical body, all your future births will have physical hardships or disabilities. We see animals born crippled.
The world is just misery. If we consider this life as a role play, sure enough, life becomes joyful and harmonious. Jesus spoke of ‘Total Acceptability’ and Lord Mahavira taught ‘Ahimsa Paramo Dharma’—that is, do not commit violence against yourself; or cause yourself unnecessary suffering.
Therefore, wake up and inspire others! If we are joyful upon receiving this knowledge, sharing it with others becomes our responsibility. This whole world is one family. We have come from the One, and into One we dissolve. We had countless births; millions of brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers and other family members are walking this earth today, and we do not recognise them. When you awaken to the fact that this entire world is your family, then you will naturally do this service. My tagline is: “I will never let you be unhappy”. So, how could I let you take your own life?
Happiness is guaranteed. Therefore, share and spread this message to all so that suicides can end. People are taking their lives. Those who are dying are indeed dying, and they will face further consequences for suicides. Ending one’s own life is Brahma-hatya, as if you have strangled God. Never commit such a heinous crime. All of this is due to ignorance; once a soul attains true knowledge, it will never choose self-destruction. Hence, be natural and relaxed, awaken and inspire others and make your birth successful.
