| Amit Sharma reviews Population Enumeration progress in snow-bound areas | | |  Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 11: Amit Sharma, IAS, Chief Principal Census Officer (CPCO) and Director Census Operations (DCO), Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, today chaired a comprehensive review meeting with the Nodal Officers and District Coordinators of the Directorate to assess the progress of Population Enumeration of Census 2027in the snow-bound areas of the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
The meeting was moderated by Arun Kumar, Joint Chief Principal Census Officer and Manmeet Singh Loomba, Deputy Chief Principal Census Officer and attended by all Assistant Chief Principal Census Officers and District Coordinators from the Directorate of Census Operations, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
A detailed snow bound district-wise review was undertaken by CPCO Amit Sharma regarding the ongoing Population Enumeration in the whole of Union Territory of Ladakh and the partially snow bound districts of UT of Jammu & Kashmir, along with the status of Population Enumeration in Special Charges in their snow bound areas. The District Coordinators presented updated status reports on the activities under their respective jurisdictions and informed that the Population Enumeration exercise is progressing satisfactorily and in accordance with the prescribed Census guidelines and training protocols.
CPCO Amit Sharma reviewed preparations for the forthcoming District Census Handbook (DCHB) training and fieldwork, as well as the preparedness of the Directorate. The District Coordinators informed the meeting that preparations for DCHB training have been planned across most districts during the third and fourth weeks of September 2026 and already in progress in some districts. The training will precede the DCHB fieldwork scheduled to be undertaken during October 2026, and district teams have initiated the necessary preparations to ensure timely commencement and smooth execution of the field activities.
Providing an update on Special Charges, Shri Manmeet Singh Loomba, Deputy Chief Principal Census Officer, informed that the training of Charge Officers, Supervisors and Enumerators of all Special Charges falling within the snow-bound areas of the UT of Jammu & Kashmir has been successfully completed. He further informed that the required Census material has also been supplied to all such Special Charges, ensuring their readiness for the Population Enumeration exercise.
Jatinder Kumar, Assistant Chief Principal Census Officer, similarly apprised the meeting that in the UT of Ladakh, training of Charge Officers, Supervisors and Enumerators of all Special Charges has also been completed and the required Census material has been provided to the concerned establishments.
CPCO Amit Sharma also reviewed preparations for the forthcoming visit of senior officers from ORGI for inspection of Census preparedness and progress in both the UTs of J&K and Ladakh in coming days. It was informed that preparations are in full flow and all concerned Nodal Officers and District Coordinators have been fully briefed and are prepared to facilitate the inspection and provide the required updates on Census activities.
CPCO Shri Amit Sharma appreciated the coordinated efforts of the district teams and the progress reported from across Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. He stressed the importance of maintaining the same level of preparedness and adherence to Census guidelines through the remaining stages of the exercise, particularly in view of the challenging geographical conditions of the snow-bound areas.
The Chief Principal Census Officer emphasised that the simultaneous progress of Population Enumeration, Special Charges and preparations for the DCHB exercise reflects the multi-dimensional nature of the Census 2027 work programme, and called upon all officers and field functionaries to maintain close coordination, timely reporting and strict adherence to the prescribed procedures.
Amit Sharma expressed confidence that the continued efforts of the Directorate's officers, District Coordinators and field teams would ensure the smooth and successful completion of Population Enumeration in the snow-bound areas of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, while keeping the Directorate fully prepared for the subsequent stages of Census 2027. |
