| Sadhotra lashes out at Karra over Vande Matram controversy | | |  Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 12: National Conference Additional General Secretary and Former Minister Mr Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today lashed out at Pradesh Congress Committee President Tariq Hamid Karra for indulging in cheap politics over the issue of Vande Mataram, saying that abiding by the Constitution is an obligatory and sacred duty of every citizen. Sadhotra was addressing a Women Wing meeting organized by Ayesha Gupta Incharge of Women Wing of Jammu North Assembly Constituency, Babli Ji, Neelam Ji and Kanta Ji at Pakhian Mishriwala in Jammu North Assembly Constituency.
Reacting to the statements made by the Congress President, NC leader made it clear that upholding constitutional values should not be confused with extending political support to any particular government or political dispensation. He said the Constitution belongs to every Indian citizen and cannot be selectively invoked for political convenience. "Commitment of the India Block is to the Constitution, the people and the democratic values enshrined therein. It does not mean endorsing the policies or politics of the BJPled Central Government," he said.
Sadhotra said the National Conference has its own distinct political identity, rooted in the aspirations of Jammu and Kashmir and its historic commitment to secularism, democracy and equitable development. "We will continue to oppose policies that undermine the interests of Jammu and Kashmir and question the failures of those in power at the Centre," Mr Sadhotra added.
Sadhotra endorsed the views expressed by Jenab Omar Abdullah on the subject, saying that the Chief Minister had rightly emphasized the importance of constitutional values.
He said that the Constitution guarantees both rights and duties to citizens, and its spirit demands mutual accommodation rather than political opportunism. The Constitution is supreme, and every citizen is bound to uphold its dignity and principles. Attempts to turn sensitive issues into political weapons serve no purpose other than creating confusion and division," he said.
Sadhotra urged political parties to focus on issues concerning the daily lives of the people instead of engaging in needless controversies. He said Jammu and Kashmir was facing several serious challenges, which have to be met by waking up the Centre on respecting the democratic urges and aspirations of the people who find themselves at the crossroads of history in the wake of usurping their legitimate rights and enforcing most provocative measure of dual control over administration. This has retarted the development and overall growth in this part of the country, he added.
Referring to the fake loan scam involving hundreds of women folk in villages around Mishriwala, Sadhotra said that many victims had reportedly been duped by fraudulent company on the name of cultivation of turmeric (HALDI) and had lost their hard-earned savings. He said that in this regard, IG Crime and SSP Crime Jammu have been approached by a delegation comprising of Ved Parkash Sharma, Kulwant Singh Manhas, Babli Ji and Neelam Ji, and expressed confidence that Crime Branch will investigate and examine all financial transactions, records, institutional linkages associated with the alleged scam. "If any bank official is found to have facilitated or overlooked wrongdoing, accountability must be fixed," he added.
"The victims are ordinary people who trusted this Company, Bank and Sarpanch with their lifetime savings. Their plight cannot be ignored. The investigation must be completed expeditiously and every person found responsible, irrespective of position or influence, should face the law," he said.
Sadhotra said the possible involvement of bank officials in the alleged fraud also required thorough investigation. He questioned whether such a large-scale financial irregularity could have taken place without the knowledge, negligence or possible complicity of officials responsible for scrutinizing transactions and safeguarding public money.
Sadhotra also questioned the role of the local BJP Sarpanch in the matter, asking whether those in positions of political influence had taken adequate steps to protect the interests of the victims and ensure timely action are facilitated in the scam. He said the people of Jammu and Kashmir expected political parties to stand with victims of injustice and financial exploitation rather than indulge in diversionary politics.
"Public confidence in institutions can be restored only through transparency, accountability and prompt justice," Sadhotra said, urging the authorities to pursue the investigation to its logical conclusion. High Tributes were paid to the dedicated senior leader of National Conference of Pakhian, late Charan Dass (Retd Principal) and two-minute silence was also observed, who died about months back.
Sikander Lal (Retd Senior Officer) of Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education and brother of late Charan Dass joined National Conference to keep the continuity of the relationship between family and the National Conference.
