POONCH, Sept 16: Chief Principal Census Officer (CPCO) and Director, Census Operations, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Amit Sharma, today visited Poonch and reviewed the preparedness for the forthcoming Census during a meeting held at Poonch.
Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Ashok Kumar Sharma briefed the CPCO on the district-level preparedness and arrangements for the Census operations.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Tahir Mustafa Malik, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Muhammad Sayeed, DSEO Javid Ahmed and other concerned officers also attended the meeting.
Detailed discussions were held on field arrangements, inter-departmental coordination, availability of resources and other preparatory activities.
Amit Sharma stressed proper planning, close coordination and timely execution for a hassle free conduct of the process. He directed the concerned officers to ensure timely appointment, digital registration and training of Enumerators and Supervisors as per the prescribed guidelines.
Later, Amit Sharma held a press conference and briefed the media about the objectives, preparations and key features of the forthcoming Census. He highlighted that the Census will be the country's first fully digital and paperless Census, with special attention to remote, difficult and snow-bound border areas such as Poonch to ensure comprehensive coverage within the stipulated timelines.
He emphasized the importance of accurate Census data for demographic, social and economic planning and effective implementation of development programmes. He urged the media, civil society organizations and community leaders to create awareness about the Census, particularly the self-enumeration facility, and appealed to citizens to extend full cooperation to the Census authorities, Enumerators and Supervisors.
