Early Times Report KATRA, Sept 17: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO), conducted an awareness camp for gold and silver jewellery dealers at Katra today, in collaboration with the Directorate of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), Jammu and the Legal Metrology Department, Jammu. The programme aimed to create awareness among jewellery dealers regarding the BIS Hallmarking Scheme, applicable standards, and various BIS initiatives related to quality assurance and consumer protection. During the programme, Sh. Vesalapu Avinash Babu, Scientist-D/Joint Director, BIS JKBO, provided detailed information on the BIS Hallmarking Scheme, including the importance of hallmarking, purity of precious metal jewellery, and the role of BIS in ensuring quality and transparency in the jewellery sector. He also briefed the participants about various BIS activities and initiatives being undertaken for the promotion of standards and protection of consumer interests. Officials from the Directorate of FCS&CA, Jammu, and the Legal Metrology Department, Jammu, also interacted with the jewellery dealers and apprised them of the relevant regulatory requirements and the importance of compliance with applicable provisions. The interaction provided an opportunity for the jewellery dealers to raise their queries and seek clarification on matters related to hallmarking, standards and regulatory compliance. BIS JKBO continues to undertake awareness and outreach programmes across its jurisdiction to promote quality, standards, hallmarking and consumer awareness among stakeholders and the general public. |
