| Foundation stones laid for two major road projects worth Rs 18.17 Crore in Poonch Haveli | | |  Early Times Report
POONCH, Sept 17: In a significant boost to rural connectivity in Poonch Haveli, the foundation stones of two major road projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) were laid today by Jenab Ajaz Ahmed Jan, MLA Haveli (Poonch).
The two projects cover a combined length of 8 kilometres at a total sanctioned cost of Rs 18.17 crore.
The first project, 021 - Link Road from Km 4.400 of Poonch-Jhullas Road at Banga Pani to Pothi Pathana, has a length of 6 kilometres and a sanctioned cost of Rs 13.5864 crore.
The second project, L023 - Chaktroo-Timbra Road from Km 0.700 to U Timbra, covers 2 kilometres at a sanctioned cost of Rs 4.5840 crore.
Speaking on the occasion, Ajaz Ahmed Jan said that improved road connectivity is essential for the socio-economic development of rural and remote areas. He stressed that the works must be executed within the stipulated timeframe and strictly according to approved specifications and quality standards.
MLA Takes Up Drinking Water Concerns
After the foundation stone ceremonies at both locations, several prominent persons, former Sarpanches, Panches and local leaders met the Hon'ble MLA and raised serious concerns regarding defunct drinking water supply schemes in their respective areas.
The representatives informed the MLA that a large number of water motors are non-functional or damaged, resulting in difficulties for residents. They also demanded installation of new hand pumps at locations facing acute drinking-water shortages.
Taking note of the concerns, Ajaz Ahmed Jan assured the local representatives that the matter would be taken up with the concerned authorities on priority. He stated that accountability for prolonged negligence and non-functional water infrastructure would be sought from the responsible officials/agencies and that appropriate action as per rules and law would be pursued wherever lapses are established.
The MLA reiterated that reliable drinking-water supply is a basic public necessity and directed that the genuine concerns of the people be addressed on priority. |
