| GGM SC Jammu organises Tree Plantation Drive under “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” Campaign | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 25: Government Gandhi Memorial (GGM) Science College, Jammu, organised a Tree Plantation Drive under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, with the active participation of the NCC Senior Division (SD) Cadets of 2 J&K Battalion NCC.
The plantation activity was conducted under the able supervision of Principal Prof. Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta, who encouraged the NCC cadets to actively participate in environmental conservation initiatives and contribute towards creating a greener and healthier environment. During the programme, ANO Lt. Dr. Devinder Kumar Sharma briefed the cadets about the significance and objective of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative. He highlighted that the campaign encourages citizens, particularly the youth, to plant and nurture trees as a tribute to their mothers while simultaneously strengthening the commitment towards environmental protection.
Lt. Dr. Devinder kumar Sharma explained that planting a tree in the name of one’s mother represents a meaningful bond between family, nature and responsibility. Just as a mother nurtures and protects her child, trees sustain life by providing oxygen, shade, habitat for biodiversity and numerous other environmental benefits. The initiative therefore seeks to inspire people to develop a personal sense of responsibility towards trees and their long-term care.
The NCC SD Cadets of 2 J&K Battalion NCC enthusiastically participated in the plantation activity. The cadets planted saplings at designated locations within the surrounding green area and also participated in watering and caring for the newly planted trees. The activity reflected the NCC’s emphasis on discipline, social responsibility, environmental awareness and community service.
The plantation drive also provided the cadets with an opportunity to understand that environmental conservation is not limited to planting saplings but also involves their regular watering, protection and maintenance until they grow into healthy trees. Through their participation, the cadets demonstrated their commitment to contributing towards a cleaner, greener and more sustainable environment.
Principal Prof. Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta appreciated the efforts of the NCC unit and the participating cadets. He emphasised the importance of involving young people in environmental initiatives so that they develop lasting habits of protecting nature and become responsible citizens.
The programme concluded with a renewed commitment by the NCC cadets to protect and nurture the planted saplings and to continue participating in activities aimed at environmental conservation and community welfare.
The “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” plantation drive thus served as both an environmental initiative and a symbolic tribute to mothers, conveying the message that every sapling planted and nurtured today can become a lasting contribution to a greener tomorrow. |
