| 33 water supply schemes operational in Trehgam constituency; 15 JJM schemes taken up at cost of Rs 97.71 Crore: Javed Rana | | |  Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Sept 25: Minister for Jal Shakti, Javed Ahmed Rana, today informed the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly that as many as 33 water supply schemes are presently operational in Trehgam Constituency, catering to the drinking water requirements of 39 villages.
The Minister was responding to a Calling Attention Motion moved by MLA Mir Saifullah concerning the scarcity of drinking water and inadequate water supply in several villages of Trehgam Constituency.
Giving details of the drinking water supply situation in the constituency, the Minister said that 26 of the 39 villages currently have no shortage of drinking water facilities.
However, water shortages have been reported from 13 villages, where the department has made arrangements to meet the immediate requirements of residents through tanker services, as per the demand and prevailing situation.
Rana further informed the House that the department has taken up several new water supply schemes to address the identified areas facing shortages.
These schemes are being executed at different stages under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and other ongoing programmes.
Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the Minister said, 15 water supply schemes involving an estimated cost of Rs. 97.71 crore have been taken up in Trehgam Constituency.
Of these, three schemes have already been completed, while 12 schemes are under execution and have achieved more than 85 per cent physical progress.
He informed the Assembly that an expenditure of Rs. 58.88 crore has so far been incurred on these JJM schemes against the total estimated project cost of Rs. 97.71 crore.
The Minister also apprised the House of the works being undertaken under NABARD and UT Capex. He said that three water supply schemes have been taken up under these programmes, adding that WSS Gushi and WSS Laderwan have reached the final stage of completion and are expected to be commissioned shortly.
Addressing the issue of households and habitations that are yet to be covered adequately, Javed Rana said that proposals for the coverage and augmentation of water supply to left-out habitations have been incorporated under various programmes, including UT Capex, District Capex, SASCI, VVP and DA-JUGA.
These interventions are aimed at ensuring 100 per cent coverage of households in the identified areas.
The Minister reiterated that the Jal Shakti Department is undertaking all necessary measures to address drinking water-related concerns in Trehgam Constituency.
He said that both short-term arrangements, including tanker supply, and long-term infrastructure projects are being pursued to ensure reliable water availability. |
