| Rumours of two students missing spark tension at Chitkara University | | | Early Times Report
Chandigarh, Sept 26: Tension prevailed at Chitkara University, located on the Chandigarh-Patiala Road, late Friday night after reports circulated on social media claiming that two female students had gone missing and had allegedly died. Following the circulation of the reports, a large number of students gathered on the university campus and staged a protest, demanding clarification from the administration.
After receiving information about the situation, police and university officials reached the spot. Station House Officer (SHO) Gursevak Singh and University Registrar Colonel Rakesh Sharma interacted with the students and attempted to calm the situation.
The protesting students claimed that two female students of the university were missing. However, they did not have any concrete information or official confirmation regarding the matter. The students demanded that the truth be established and that CCTV footage from cameras installed across the campus be examined.
Some students also raised questions about alleged noises coming from the hostel during the night and the movement of ambulances on the campus. During the commotion, an argument also took place between the police and some students.
Amid the situation, University Registrar Colonel Rakesh Sharma told the students that no incident involving the death of two female students had taken place on the university campus. He described the reports circulating on social media as false and rumours, and appealed to students not to believe or circulate any information without verification.
DSP Banur Sukhdev Singh said that the police had received a complaint from the students. The available information and records will now be examined. If it is confirmed that any student is missing, further action will be taken as per the law.
The situation on the campus is currently reported to be peaceful. |
