| NMOPS-J&K welcomes one-time OPS option, urges CM to restore OPS for all | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 29: The National Movement for Old Pension Scheme (NMOPS)-J&K has welcomed the Government's decision to extend a one-time option for coverage under the Old Pension Scheme (OPS)/Defined Pension Scheme to eligible employees appointed against posts/vacancies advertised or notified before December 24, 2009, but who joined Government service under the New Pension Scheme (NPS).
The Finance Department has issued Government Order No. 305-F of 2026 dated September 28, 2026, following the decision of the Council of Ministers. As per the order, eligible employees can exercise the option for coverage under the Defined Pension Scheme through the prescribed channel within three months from the date of issuance of the order.
NMOPS-J&K President Mohammed Ashraf Sheikh welcomed the decision and expressed gratitude to Hon'ble Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the Hon'ble Council of Ministers for addressing the long-pending issue of employees who were selected against vacancies advertised before the implementation of NPS but joined Government service subsequently.
"This decision will provide much-needed relief to employees who were selected against vacancies advertised before the introduction of NPS but, due to the recruitment and appointment process, joined Government service later. NMOPS-J&K appreciates the Government for addressing the genuine concern of this category of employees," Ashraf said.
He, however, clarified that the latest decision covers a specific category of employees, while the larger demand of NMOPS-J&K remains the restoration of OPS for all employees covered under NPS.
*Appeal to CM to Fulfil Manifesto Commitment*
NMOPS-J&K also made a special appeal to Hon'ble Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to take further steps towards restoration of the Old Pension Scheme for all NPS employees, as mentioned in the party manifesto.
"We respectfully request the Hon'ble Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Sahib to restore the Old Pension Scheme for all employees covered under NPS, as committed in the manifesto. We have high expectations from your leadership and hope that the Government will take a comprehensive decision in favour of pension security for the entire employees' community," Ashraf said. |
