Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 5: MIER College of Education, Jammu, organised a Road Safety Awareness Programme, "Joy of Safety," in collaboration with Value LIFE Foundation and Suzuki Motorcycle India on 5 October 2026, with the aim of promoting road safety awareness and responsible road behaviour among students. The programme was attended by students of the School of Education and the School of Social Sciences and Humanities. The initiative focused on sensitising students about traffic rules, safe riding practices, helmet safety, defensive riding, emergency response, and basic life-saving skills.
Prof. Adit Gupta, Director and Principal, MIER College, along with Mrs Rupa Gupta, Joint Director; Prof. Nishta Rana, Head, School of Education; Prof Monika Bajaj, Head, School of Social Sciences and Humanities; Prof Bharti Tandon, Deputy Head, School of Education; the IQAC team; and faculty members from both Schools attended the event. Mr Sandeep Kumar, Area Manager, Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd., and Mr Vivek Kumar, Programme Manager, Value LIFE Foundation, along with team members, were among the other dignitaries.
The session included interactive road safety awareness and training sessions conducted by the Value LIFE Foundation team. Students were sensitised to the importance of adopting safe and responsible practices while using roads and two-wheelers, with special emphasis on the use of standard helmets, defensive riding, and appropriate responses during emergencies.
The programme also included a practical road safety demonstration, followed by a Slow Ride and Zig-Zag Riding Competition, which gave students an opportunity to understand the importance of control, balance, concentration, and safe riding through practical engagement. An important component of the programme was the involvement of students as Road Safety Ambassadors and volunteers, who took part in a community-oriented activity to extend the message of road safety beyond the campus and encourage responsible behaviour among road users.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Adit Gupta, Director and Principal, MIER College, stated that road safety is closely linked to the well-being of young people and the wider community. He appreciated the efforts of Value LIFE Foundation and Suzuki Motorcycle India in engaging students through practical, hands-on learning, and encouraged students to follow traffic rules, adopt safe riding habits, and act as responsible ambassadors of road safety within and beyond the campus.
Prof. Nishta Rana and Mr Sandeep Kumar also emphasised that road safety is a shared responsibility and that young people can play a significant role in promoting a culture of safe and responsible road use.
