Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 5: Dr Varinder Sharma, Co-Convener, Health Cell, BJP J&K, has warmly welcomed the newly notified Jammu and Kashmir Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) Policy 2026, describing it as a timely and far-sighted initiative that will go a long way in easing the energy crisis aggravated by the ongoing West Asia conflict between Iran and the United States and its worldwide repercussions. "Every household that shifts to bio-gas reduces dependence on imported fuel and strengthens our collective energy security," he observed. Noting that the Ganderbal bio-gas plant is already operational and that several more are under construction across Kashmir, he stressed that the model must now be taken to every village of Jammu and Kashmir. He urged the administration to ensure that the capital support, interest subvention, nominal land leasing and tax exemptions announced under the policy reach grassroots beneficiaries without delay, with projects cleared swiftly through the Single Window Portal. Dr Sharma appreciated the policy's wider benefits. It will generate employment in rural areas, produce environmentally friendly energy and, most importantly, make productive use of organic waste such as cattle dung, crop residues and municipal waste. The bio-manure produced as a by-product will also help address the fertiliser shortages and rising input costs that farmers regularly face. He pointed out that municipalities have already prohibited the direct dumping of dung in water bodies, a step that protects streams, rivers and public health. In this context, he said, all dairy holders must be actively encouraged to take advantage of the bio-gas plant establishment schemes, so that waste is converted into a resource rather than a pollutant. Dr Sharma added that the policy, valid until 2032, will significantly help in reducing the region's carbon footprint, in line with the vision repeatedly articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on clean energy, sustainability and a self-reliant India. Dr Varinder congratulated the concerned departments for the initiative and called upon all stakeholders, including panchayats, farmers, dairy owners and entrepreneurs, to come forward and make the policy a success |
