Early Times Report
REASI, Oct 10: In view of the upcoming Navratri festival 2026, Reasi Police have intensified checking and frisking operations across the district to ensure the safety and security of pilgrims and the general public, while keeping a strict vigil against drug trafficking and other unlawful activities.
As part of these preventive measures, a police party from Police Post Kakryal established a special naka near Moori Bridge to check pedestrians and vehicles. At about 1850 hours, a motorcycle bearing registration No. JK20C-1200, travelling from Jammu towards Katra, was intercepted for checking.
During the checking and frisking of the rider, a black-coloured polythene containing approximately 2.72 grams of heroin (chitta) was recovered from his possession.
The individual was identified as Ujjwal Mehra S/O Ganesh Mehra R/O Ward No. 03, near Durga Bhawan, Katra.
In this connection, FIR No. 319/2026 U/S 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Katra and further investigation has been taken up as per law.
Reasi Police reiterate their commitment to maintaining law and order, curbing the drug menace and ensuring a safe and secure environment for pilgrims and residents during the forthcoming Navratri festival. Special nakas, checking drives and surveillance measures will continue across the district as part of the comprehensive security arrangements.
Reasi Police urge the public to cooperate with the police and share information regarding drug trafficking or any suspicious activity to help keep society safe and drug-free.
