Rajouri, Oct 11: The Department of Social Welfare, Rajouri, through the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), celebrated the International Day of the Girl Child at Dak Bungalow, Rajouri, under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative, under the able supervision of the worthy District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO), Rajouri. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students representing various institutions, including Gujjar and Bakerwal Hostels, Rajouri, Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS), Gurdan, EMRS Koteranka, Girls Pahari Hostel, Rajouri, and Parisha, Rajouri. The event aimed to promote the rights, education, empowerment, safety, and overall development of the girl child. The programme was graced by Ms. Preeti Sharma, Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Rajouri, as the Chief Guest. The celebration highlighted the importance of providing equal opportunities to girls, encouraging their active participation in society, and creating a safe and supportive environment for their growth and development. A special highlight of the programme was a self-defence training session for the participating girls, conducted by Master Coach Shakeel Ahmed of the Indo International Taekwondo Academy, a 6th Dan Black Belt holder certified by Kukkiwon. Through practical demonstrations and guidance, the participants were sensitised to the importance of self-defence, physical fitness, confidence-building, and personal safety. As part of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative, tracksuits were distributed among the participating children, encouraging their participation in physical activities and promoting their well-being. Mentors were also provided to the participating children to guide, motivate, and support them in their personal growth and development. The programme reaffirmed the commitment of the Department of Social Welfare, Rajouri, and DHEW towards strengthening the objectives of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, promoting gender equality, ensuring the safety and dignity of girls, and empowering the next generation through awareness, guidance, and capacity-building activities. The event concluded with a renewed commitment to collectively work towards building a society where every girl child is safe, educated, confident, and empowered to realise her full potential. |
