Jammu, Oct 21: Sanjeev Verma, IAS, Chief Electoral Officer of Jammu and Kashmir inaugurated the ‘Open District Level Speed Ball Championship 2026’ here on Wednesday.
The event was organized by J&G Sports Speedball Association at Mount Litera Zee School, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu.
More than 200 students representing around 10 schools from across the district participated enthusiastically in the championship.
Chief Electoral Officer of J&K, Sanjeev Verma was the Chief Guest on the occasion, while Ritika Tehran, BJP Convenor, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, was the Guest of Honour. Other distinguished special guests included Somil Abrol, Amit Mahajan, Neha Gupta, Managing Director of Mount Litera Zee School, Aastha Nanda, Joint Secretary, J&K Sports Speedball Association, and Munish Gupta, Vice President, J&K Sports Speedball Association. Principal Rachita Dutta and representatives of various participating schools, teachers, staff members, parents and players were also present.
Addressing the young players, Verma appreciated the efforts of the J&K sports Speedball Association in promoting sports among children.
He said that he was delighted to watch the children competing and described Speedball as an interesting and enjoyable sport that can be played almost anywhere.
He also shared that he has been associated with Speedball activities since 2010 and always feels happy to attend the Association’s programmers whenever invited. He congratulated the organizers, participating schools and young players for promoting a healthy sporting culture.
Sanjeev Verma also presented prizes and trophies to the winners and outstanding teams. In the overall school championship, Rich Harvest School, Bari Brahmana secured the first position, while Humanity Public School, Bari Brahmana secured the second position. Both schools were congratulated for their excellent performances.
The programme was hosted and coordinated by Sunny Nanda of J&K Sports Speedball Association. Nanda informed that all medal winners of the District Championship have qualified for the State Level Speedball Championship, which is scheduled to be held in December 2026.
He congratulated all the medal winners and participating schools and said that the Association would continue providing opportunities to young players to compete at district, state, national and higher levels. The school Principal, management and staff thanked all the dignitaries, participating schools, players and guests for making the event successful. |
