Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 23: Senior National Conference leader and Provincial President Jammu, Rattan Lal Gupta, expressed confidence that the National Conference will sweep in forthcoming Panchayat and Urban Local bodies elections as and when held on the basis of its governance, development initiatives and commitment to social justice.
Gupta said that the NC-led government under the leadership of Hon'ble Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was committed to inclusive development, strengthening democratic institutions and addressing the genuine concerns of people across Jammu and Kashmir. He stated that the party would approach the electorate with its performance and the work undertaken for public welfare.
Taking a dig at the Leader of Opposition, Gupta remarked that political rhetoric would not be enough to win the confidence of the people. The performance of LOP and other MLA's of BJP in the recent session of Jammu and Kashmir legislative Assembly was a big Zero they could not raised the public issues of their respective Assembly Constituencies and their only agenda was to disturbed the Assembly over nothing. He said the BJP leadership should reflect on its electoral performance in Kishtwar district in the previous elections of Panchayat and local bodies elections instead of making tall claims about its political strength. He asserted that the electorate would judge every political party on its record, public engagement and commitment to resolving people's problems.
Gupta further said that the BJP was facing growing questions from the public over its promises and its record on key issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir. He maintained that the National Conference would continue to highlight matters relating to development, employment, rural infrastructure, drinking water, electricity, roads and the welfare of weaker sections.
Reaffirming the party's commitment to grassroots democracy, Gupta said that Panchayati Raj institutions were essential for empowering villages and ensuring that development benefits reached people at the local level. He added that the National Conference would present its vision before the people and seek their support through democratic means.
"The National Conference will approach the people on the strength of its governance, public service and commitment to inclusive development. The people's verdict in the Panchayat elections will reflect their assessment of the performance and promises of every political party," Gupta said.
