The complaint was submitted by Tito Ganju, Chairman of Panun Kashmir, and Col Ajay Raina, Chairman of Jammu State People's Movement. It seeks a police investigation into statements attributed to Dr Abdullah concerning Pakistan's role in the Kashmir issue, the constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir, the Union government and alleged religious polarisation. According to the complaint, Dr Abdullah, while addressing party workers in Baramulla, referred to Pakistan as a neighbouring country whose position had allegedly helped keep the Kashmir issue alive. The complaint also cites his reported remarks questioning the prospects of justice from the Union government and warning that the people of Jammu and Kashmir risked losing their identity if they failed to confront the prevailing political circumstances. The complainants have further drawn attention to remarks attributed to Dr Abdullah concerning the demolition of mosques, homes and shops, as well as his assertion that Hindus and Muslims were being pitted against each other. They have urged the police to examine these statements in their entirety, taking into account the context, the audience addressed and the potential implications of the speech. The complaint seeks registration of an FIR for alleged offences under Sections 152, 196 and 197 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, besides any other offences that may be disclosed during the course of investigation. The provisions invoked concern acts endangering the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India, promoting enmity between groups, and certain imputations or assertions prejudicial to national integration. |
