JAMMU, Nov 4: Senior BJP leader and Convenor, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, J&K UT, Ritika Trehan today visited the Jammu Expo 2.0 exhibition, organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Trade Promotion Organisation (JKPTO) at Gole Market, Gandhi Nagar. Emphasizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Vocal for Local, Local for Global’, Trehan encouraged local artisans, self-help groups, and grassroots entrepreneurs while calling on citizens to support indigenous craftsmanship—especially by choosing local products for their festive and Diwali shopping. Accompanied by prominent women leaders, including Anju Bansal, Aarti Karle, Leela Chhetri, and Ritika Mahajan & many other team members Trehan toured various stalls showcasing an impressive collection of handmade goods, traditional embroidery, decorative items, and food processing products. Interacting directly with the craftsmen, she enquired about their production methods, challenges, and marketing opportunities, commending their immense patience, creativity, and dedication. Highlighting the critical role of economic empowerment for women, Trehan observed that while many women across Jammu and Kashmir possess exceptional traditional skills, limited exposure often keeps their talent confined to local markets. She noted that platforms like Jammu Expo 2.0 (running from November 2 to November 6) are essential for bridging this gap—giving women artisans direct market access, building entrepreneurial confidence, and creating sustainable livelihoods. Trehan appreciated JKPTO Jammu for organizing the grand exhibition and providing a common platform to local talent. Reaffirming that Jammu & Kashmir holds immense potential in indigenous crafts, she concluded that collective community support, institutional backing, and stronger market linkages will ultimately transform grassroots skill into sustainable economic growth under the broader vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat. |
