| Jammu citizens forum alleges discrimination against region | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 24: President Citizens Forum Jammu has rued step motherly treatment being meted out to Jammu region at the hands of State and Central governments in respect of tourism development and preservation of water bodies in the region. Welcoming the announcement by the Union Secretary of Tourism S Banerjee that the two mega projects would be taken up at a cost of Rs 50 crores for up gradation of tourism infrastructure in the state, President Citizens Forum Jammu and senior PDP leader R K Chadha has demanded that during preparation of blue prints of various projects of the tourist destinations and recommending to the centre for up gradation of infrastructure, the potential tourist resort in Jammu region should be given due consideration. Forum has reiterated the demand for separate allocation of funds for all the three regions of the state for tourism development giving equitable share and has asked for a ‘white paper’ be issued with regard to the spending of Rs 240 crore already allocated by the Centre to the state for 12 tourism development authorities in the state. Referring to the brief given by the state tourism Secretary Tanvir Jehan to the Union Secretary that out of 115.72 crore released to the state under PMs package Rs 61 crore have been expanded till date on development of tourism infrastructure in the state, Mr Chadha has demanded release of figures of spending and achievements be given regions wise. He also demanded that three separate tourism development boards should be set up for Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. Citizen forum president also rued that while the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has pleaded with the visiting Union Minister for Water Resources for allocation of Rs 170 crores for protecting and preserving in valley only while the water bodies in Jammu region like Mansar, Surisar and Tawi river are blatantly ignored by the state government.
