| Government imposes Sec 144 to foil Hurriyat march | | | Early Times Report Srinagar: State administration on Thursday announced to impose section 144 across valley on Friday to thwart the ‘Cheshma-Shahi Chalo’ march called by Hurriyat Conference (G), against the continued detention of its party Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani. On Wednesday, Hurriyat Conference (G) modified its week-long programme by calling a valley wide bandh to protest the continued detention of party Chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani. The pro-freedom conglomerate also urged people to march to high security zone CheshmaShahi where the septuagenarian leader has been kept for nearly three weeks. Sources told that senior civil and police officials decided to imposes section 144 to foil the Cheshma-Shahi Chalo’ march called by Hurriyat Conference (G), against the detention of Geelani. "Section 144 will be strictly enforced in many districts of the valley particularly Srinagar. In old city and other volatile areas, the restrictions will be more intense," sources said. "The roads leading to Cheshma Shahi will be blocked and troops and police will be deployed in large numbers to prevent any untoward incident,” they added. Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Mehraj Ahmad Kakroo told Press Bureau of India that section 144 will be imposed to maintain law and order situation in the valley in wake of the Cheshma Shahi Chalo march . If needed, he said ‘strict restrictions’ will be put in place."Section 144 will be put in place to prevent large gatherings. If needed, severe restrictions will be imposed,” Kakroo said. “We will see that the restrictions are enforced strictly. There will be adequate deployment of police to meet any eventuality,” he added. CRPF Spokesman, Prabhakar Tripathi told Press Bureau of India over phone from Patna that the decision of imposing declared or undeclared curfew lies with the state administration. However, he said assisting police in maintaining law and order across the valley was the primary task of his force. “We cannot take decision regarding imposition of declared or undeclared curfew. It is the responsibility of the state government,” Tripathi told . “Our job is to assist the police in maintaining law and order. Whatever decision the state administration takes, we will extent full support to them," he added
