6/26/2009 11:10:12 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Jun 26 : Over a dozen people were injured, three of them critically, when two groups clashed over a land dispute in bordering Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir today.
''Two parties entered into a scuffle this morning and attacked each other with sharp-edged weapons including lathis (sticks) and axes over disputed 800 kanals of forest land,'' police sources here said.
Finding the situation out of control, police opened fire to disperse them.
''Hundreds of people, however, assembled and blocked the Mendhar-Poonch road for around three hours amid slogans against police,'' an eyewitness told UNI in a telephonic conversation.
Meanwhile, SDM, Mendhar and forest officials seized the records for scrutiny as it has been alleged that maximum portion of forest land has been encroached.
The critically injured have been identified as Haji Balaoch, son of Mohd Aziz , Munshi Khan, son of Alla Ditta and Mohd Shafi, son of Sher Mohd, all residents of village Harni, Poonch. They would be shifted to Government Medical College.
Police have registered a case and started investigation.
