6/26/2009 11:12:30 PM
Early Times Report
Ramban, June 26: Taking serious note of increase in the human right violation cases after formation of NC-Congress coalition in the state, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today regretted that the government has failed to safeguard life and dignity of the people of this State. Scrapping of draconian laws like Armed Forces Special Powers Act was must to restore dignity and honour of the common masses, the party said.
Addressing a meeting at Ramban which was organized in connection with the on going campaign against Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) and violation of human rights, former Minister and senior party leader Peer Mohammad Hussain said that
Congress-National Conference coalition regime was looking helpless in protecting lives of people as killing of innocent citizens has been going unabated since formation of this regime in the State.
He specially mentioned that during the last six months cases of human right violation and killing of innocent people at the hands of security forces have increased manifold and the government has been helplessly watching the situation. “Instead of protecting dignity and lives of the innocent citizens, coalition partners are more particular about enjoying powers”, he said and regretted that for the lust of powers both coalition partners-Congress and NC have adopted silence on the killing of innocent people.
In his address, party general secretary Thakur Balbir Singh said that coalition has failed on all fronts. “During the last six months nothing concrete has been done so far on the ground”, he said and expressed surprise that in the long span of six months this dispensation has failed to take even a single step to minimize miseries of the common masses.
Party vice-president Ved Mahajan, secretary Sayeed Asgar Ali, MLC, youth wing president Bashir Asad also addressed the function.
