| Ex-MLC, family booked fro alleged harassment of daughter-in-law | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 26: Ruchi Chouhan Mir, daughter-in-law of a senior woman congress leader and former MLC Fahida Mir has filed a complaint against her husband and in-laws accusing them of physically abusing her and demanding a hefty dowry from her parents. Acting on her complaint women cell of state police has booked an FIR on Thursday No 8/09 on June 25 to investigate the charges leveled in the complaint. Ruchi Chouhan Mir was married to elder son of Fahida Mir, Tufail Mir on June 7, 1990.For some time the marriage went on smoothly but relations between the couple turned sour when Tufail, started demanding dowry and abused her physically. In her complaint filed in the women cell of state police Ruchi Chohan Mir,daughter of Onkar Singh Chouhan, former joint director in the agriculture department has also leveled serious charges against her husband Tufail Mir alleging that his only job was to beat her under the influence of liquor and demanding dowry from her parents to set his own business venture. In her complaint Ruchi Chouhan Mir has sought action against the entire Mir family and has also named her father- in- law Muneer Hussain Mir, Tufail Mir, Rahil Mir and Iram Mir alleging the entire family patronized Tufail while he beat her up. She has also alleged that she was not spared by cruel Tufail while she was in family way. Tufail and Ruchi, both studying together had tied nuptial knot in 1990 under Muslim law and gave birth to two children. "Tufail, an idler whose only preoccupation was to drink liquor and beat me constantly demanded a sum of Rs 25 lakh as dowry to set up his own venture" Ruhi Mir stated inher complaint. She said Tufail also started a computer training institute AMAZON in Gandhi Nagar but failed to run the office and constantly abused her and assaulted her physically despite the fact that she handed over Rs 2 lakh in cash and 25 tolas of gold. First of all Ruchi moved the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate in Jammu on June 8 2009 seeking appropriate action under section 156 (3) of CrPC and 498 (A) of RPC and other provisions of the law. Before moving the court of CJM, Ruchi Chouhan Mir had also filed an FIR on April 28 in Channi Himmat Police station but no action was taken on her complaint. Roche had claimed that she was attacked by Tufail inside her rented accommodation in Slink Colony area.
