All ready to join hands against narcotics

Jammu, june 26: Speaking on the occasion, Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khoda sought cooperation from all sections of the society to deal with this social problem. He threw light on the subject and apprised about the steps taken by the law enforcement agencies. He said that Police Department has established a counseling and rehabilitation centre which is operating very successfully, adding the Centre is providing, free treatment and guidance to the drug abuse sufferers. He suggested various solutions to stop further spread of this menace among the people.
In connection with the observance of the Day, department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu organized an exhibition of posters at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium here which was inaugurated by Prof. B P S Sehgal, dean academic affairs.
In his message to the youth, Prof. Sehgal, emphasized the importance of being on guard against drugs and called for organizing such events periodically to keep the campaign against drug abuse, alive. He eulogized the endeavour of the department of Students Welfare for holding this exhibition against the menace of drugs and acquainted them about steps required to be taken against drug abuse and the illicit trafficking in narcotics drugs a well as psychotropic substances.
Prof. J S Tara, Dean Students Welfare appealed to the faculty to contribute in eradicating this menace and said that the sudden drop in performance of the students should be viewed suspiciously.
The educative and informative posters were beautifully prepared by Neeraj Sharma, Rupal, Nidhi Gupta, Anu Bala, Ashok Sharma, Amit and Sachin Bhagat.
The posters depicted slogans like “Drug abuse an invitation to the death”, “Nashe Ka Maza Maut Ki Saza”, “ Lokk here, you are not smoking, it is smoking you”, “ Drug addiction is suicide in installments”, “Say, No to drugs, Yes to Life’ “Shun drugs and alcohol fashion”.
Prof. N K Tripathi, Prof Shohab Inayat Malik Associate Dean (SW), Shailender Singh, Assistant Dean (SW), Dr. Avtar Singh Jasrotia, Assistant Dean (CA), Chama Lal Bhagat, Assistant Registrar (SW) Vinay Thusoo, PRO Sachin Bhagat, Secretary, Students Cultural Council, Research Scholars and the students were also present on the occasion.
Like other parts of the country, district administration Rajouri in collaboration with Municipal Committee, Rajouri today observed Drug Abuse Day throughout the district to create awareness about the problem posted to the mankind by the use of narcotic drugs.
The main function was held in Conference Hall, Rajouri in which prominent citizens including political and social activists, district officers and school children attended.
Earlier, District Development Commissioner (DDC), Rajouri, S. Jaipal Singh flagged off a rally of students followed by prominent citizens and veteran leaders of the town. The rally culminated at Dak Banglow Rajouri passing through main bazaar and streets of the town via Abdullah Bridge. The rally was received by SSP Mr. Showkat Wataly.
District Social Welfare Officer, Reasi, Mr. Atul Gupta organized a awareness camp in the premises of Tehsil Social Welfare Office, Reasi today to generate awareness among people including women of the tehsil about the menace of drugs.
Medical Officer, Sub District Hospital, Reasi, Dr. Pritam Singh Thakur was the chief guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Singh made the participants aware about the ill effects of drug abuse and exhorted upon them to spread the message of nipping this bad habit in their respective areas. He asked them to play an important role in creation of drugs free society by making the people especially the school children, fully aware that any type of drug be it cigarette, opium, charas, capsules, injections etc are harmful for the mankind.
District Social Welfare Officer, Mr. Gupta and Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Santosh Kumari also spoke on the occasion and stressed upon the people especially the women to play an important role by making the rural people about harmful effects of drugs.
A seminar depicting the theme “Save the Society from Drug Addiction” was organized by the Bright Anjum Academy, Doda in collaboration with an NGO Anjum Welfare Society in its premises here today.
The programme was presided over by the Chairman of managing Committee Mr. M.H Murtaza while, it was conducted by a young educationist Mr. Tanzeel-ul-Raza. Various charts and posters giving “Anti Drugs and Narcotics” message drawn by the students of the school were displayed on the occasion.
The main aim of organizing seminar was to create awareness about the drug abuse among the student community which is the vulnerable section of the society. The participants also stressed upon to the vital role of students in eradication of drug through their convincing power.
As part of International programme Drug Abuse day, Traffic Police, Jammu organized an awareness programme at Bikram Chowk here today.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Traffic, City South, Jammu, Mr. Haq Nawaz was also present.
The programme was aimed to educate the people against drug menace and also mobilize support for drug control. Over hundred drivers, transporters and Union presidents, spoke on the dire need of public awareness against menace of drugs.

As a part of World Anti-Narcotics day, Government higher secondary school, Assar organized an impressive rally which passed through main bazaar creating greater awareness about menace of drug addiction and its adverse consequences.
Students drawn from different government and private educational institutions participated in the rally carrying placards highlighting the ill effects of drugs.
To acquaint the young minds with dreaded harms of narcotics, symposium was organized in the government higher secondary school, Assar. Principal of the school, Mr Satyadev Singh Bandral was the chief guest. On the occasion, the student speakers spoke on the effects of drug abuse and how it destroys lives and communities. They pledged to educate the unaware on dangers of drug abuse and illicit trafficking. The students reiterated the commitment to join hands to eradicate the evil from the society and devote their precious time, energy towards the individual building which in turn would go a long way in nation building.
Among the speakers Wahid Javed of 12th standard was adjudged first while Shivani Menghwan of 12th class and Hassaina Tabassum of 9th class clinched second and third prizes respectively.
Meanwhile International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed in different corners of district Udhampur with huge people’s participation.
To commemorate the day, various programmes like holding of rallies, symposia, debates and awareness camps were organized by the Drug and Food Control organization, governmental educational institutions, Health department, District Red Cross society, Rotary Club and Chemist Association, Udhampur.
A massive rally of students on ill-effects of drugs was flagged off by Assistant controller Drugs, Udhampur, at Kud today in which 450 students carrying placards, banners regarding dreaded effects of drugs abuse, took off from Government Higher Secondary School, Kud and after passing through main bazaar, finally culminated at the school.
A symposium on the topic “Drug Abuse: A Social Curse” was organized in the school in which locals of the area also participated. As many as 12 students expressed their views on the subject. Principal of Govt. Higher Secondary School, Kud, Jaswant Singh, speaking on the occasion, called upon the students and the locals to join hands to root out this serious menace.
At Chenani, the Tehsildar, flagged off the rally comprising over 800 students of Government HSS, Govt. Girls High School, Chenani and Government Middle School, Chenani. The rally after passing through the main locations of the town culminated at Higher Secondary School.
A similar massive rally of 400 students was held at Government Higher Secondary School, Sudhmahadev which was flagged off by District Information Officer, Udhampur, Dr. Jagdish Mehra from the school. The rally after passing through main bazaar of Sudhmahadev, Papanashni Bowli and Hospital road, finally culminated at the take off point.
