| Get an ultrasound at Govt Hospital but don’t ask for copy of test report | | Image paper worth lakhs purchased, no printer attached to machines | | SUMITSHARMA Jammu, June 26: In summers when water borne diseases and stomach disorders are common, the poor patients have no option but to get an ultrasound done at a private clinic even if they have a report from the government hospitals. Reason is strange but true –you can get ultrasounds done at any of the government hospitals but cant carry an image to be shown to the doctor. When there is no image, the doctor would naturally recommend another ultrasound for which the patient has no option but to pull the purse strings at private clinic –at least to procure an image of the ultrasound result to be shown to the doctor for a diagnosis. The purchasing committee of health department has brought huge loss to the state exchequer as ultrasonography papers worth lakhs of rupees have been issued to the hospitals in Jammu region but ironically no ultrasonic machine has printers attached. Health Minister Sham Lal Sharma says the report is an eye opener for him and he will look into the matter. Comptroller health who is also a member of purchasing committee expressed his ignorance over the matter when contacted and said that the same will be rectify if it had happened . Pertinent to mention here that each patient has to pay Rs 100 for ultrasound in government hospitals but in turn they get report only. Doctors in the hospitals on anonymity informed that patients demanded for the scanned ultrasonography papers but without printer it is not possible, it is like bullets without gun, they added. It is also learnt that ultrasonography papers are dumped in every hospitals as there is no use of them without printing machines.
