| Parliament’s Budget session begins today | | | Agencies
New Delhi, July 1: Parliament begins on Thursday its first budget session after the elections in what is expected to be a smooth affair with opposition parties subdued after the poll defeat but the Liberhan Commission report may provide some trigger for political crossfire.
Essentially the month-long session has been called to transact the railway and general budgets, the process of which should be completed before July 31 when the votes on account taken before elections expire.
And the process of transacting the financial business was expected to be in an orderly fashion with no political issues threatening to disrupt the government-opposition relations seen during the first session.
But with the Liberhan Commission that went into the Ramjanambhoomi-Babri Masjid demolition issue presenting its report to the government on the eve of the session, political temperatures could rise.
The situation in West Bengal where the security forces have launched an all out operation against the Maoists in West Midnapore could also be a point of friction between Trinamool Congress-Congress combine and the Left Front.
Speaker Meira Kumar held a customary meeting of leaders of political parties on Wednesday in which they have assured that they would cooperate in the smooth conduct of the House.
