| PDP holds protests at Poonch, Surankote | | Repeal of AFSPA | | Early Times Report Poonch, July 2- As a part of its program of organizing protest demonstration at every district headquarter against the increase in human rights violations, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today organized massive demonstrations at Poonch and Surankote. . At Poonch the demonstration was held under the leadership of Imtiyaz Bandey, district president of the party. Shouting slogans against the coalition regime for its failure to contain atrocities of security forces, PDP activists demanded immediate scrapping of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and handing over the internal security to state police. They said that scrapping of AFSPA could ensure dignified life for the citizens of the state. Addressing the protestors, Imtiyaz Bandey regretted that killings of innocent people have been going on unabated since January this year but those at the helm of affairs were non serious in protecting lives of people. He said that new dispensation in the State has miserably failed to safeguard life and dignity of common citizens. Shamim Dar, Raja Gurmeet Singh and other senior leaders of the party also addressed the gathering. A similar demonstration was held at Surankote under the leadership of Abdul Hamid Manhas in which party workers highlighted problems being faced by the people. Besides, demanding scrapping of AFSPA, PDP workers also demanded release of wages of labourers engaged in different works, opening of Degree College at Surankote and taking up work on Fazalabad Bridge.
