| Wear helmets for safety | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, JULY 02 - The Regional Transport Officer, Jammu, Mr. R. C. Sharma today carried out a special drive make the public aware about the precautions to be taken while driving light and commercial vehicles. While checking the drivers, it was observed that the vehicle owners and operators are not adhering to the provision of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 and Rules framed there under. The two-wheelers were asked to drive scooters by using crash helmets and not use mobiles during driving. The RTO also asked the light and commercial vehicle owners to register their vehicles and print their vehicle number plates on 340X200 mm plates. The commercial vehicle owners and operators were directed to desist from over-loading and missing of scheduled bus services. Mr. Sharma asked the vehicle owners and operators to follow the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 and warned that if anybody is found violating the rules stern action will be taken against them. Meanwhile the Traffic department today issued specification for number plates of light motor and commercial motor vehicles. In this regard, the SSP Traffic, Jammu has ordered vehicle owners to print their vehicle registration number into 340X200mm plates for their light motor vehicles and 500X120mm plates for passenger cars. Regarding commercial, medium and heavy vehicles, the authorities asked the vehicle owners to print their registration numbers on 340X200 mm. In case of any violation, legal action will be taken against the violator by the Traffic department.
