7/3/2009 11:37:49 PM

Early Times Report
Jammu, July 03- Special Mobile Magistrate Electricity Jammu MK Sharma today rejected the bail application of Rano Devi wife of Sat Pal Singh and Ritu Devi wife of Vijay Singh, both residents of Sanjay Nagar Jammu, who were arrested along with other family members in dowry death case.
While rejecting the bail application Special Mobile Magistrate observed that in the present case the charge against the accused is serious in nature. Offence u/s 306 RPC is punishable with imprisonment for 10 years and fine. The case is still under investigation and the statements of the witnesses are being recorded and the investigation is in progress. Moreover, the offences against the women are on increase and any concession of bail to the accused at this stage shall hamper the investigation and encourage the perpetrators of such like offences. Court is of the opinion that accused have failed to make out a case for being released on bail. The larger interest of the society warrants dismissal of the bail application and such the bail application is dismissed.
According to the Senior Prosecuting Officer, Rekha Devi was married with accused Krishan Singh in October, 2008. It was alleged that few months after the marriage Rekha Devi was subjected to cruelty by her husband and other members of the family who used to pressurize her for brining more dowry, cash and motorcycle. This torture ultimately forced Rekha Devi to commit suicide on May 30, 2009. Accused Rano Devi is the mother-in-law and accused Ritu Devi is sister-in-law of deceased Rekha Devi. They along with some other members of the family were arrested by police u/s 498-A/306 RPC.
