Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 16: How much (money) does a Minister has in his wallets or coffers to spend? Other way around, how far can a Minister go to make an announcement for financial aid?
Famous for its apple orchards, Sopore in North Kashmir has always been important for Congress: not for the reason that this is home town and pocket-borough senior separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani but more for the fact that Sopore is a contested land of the Congress’ grand old man Ghulam Rasool Kar who late last year violated the party whip to contest, probably last election of his life, as an independent candidate. He, however, lost.
This rich history of this place at the back of his mind, the Congress leader and Minister for Roads and Buildings today announced Rs 1.50 Crores for development of Sopore town. An official press released officially released by the Information Department said, “the minister appealed workers to work for strengthening the party. He said enemies are trying to divide our party but hoped that these elements would not succeed in their nefarious designs. He announced that Rs. 1.50 crore would be spent on the development of Spore Town, besides Rs. 37 crore have been expended under PMGSY during last fiscal for the development of the district”.
Addressing the Congress convention in Sopore, the Minister said: “Congress is the lone party who can solve the public problems. He said congress high command Mrs Sonia Gandhi, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Mr. Gh.Nabi Azad and Professor Saif-ud-Din Soz are keen to see the Jammu and Kashmir state a developed one and because of their personal interest Centre allocated a whooping fund of Rs. 5500 crore for current fiscal out of which a major portion has been earmarked for development sector”.
Saroori was accompanied by MLA, Doda, Abdul Majeed Wani, Former MLA , Sopore, Haji Abdul Rasheed Dar, Senior Vice President, Mr. Muzaffer Parray, senior congress leader, Surinder Singh Chenni and district president Mir Mushtaq Ahmad were present on the occasion.
