Chib meets Medical teachers, asks for strengthening emergency services

Jammu, Sept 18- Asserting that the emergency services need to be strengthened to streamline the functioning of Government Medical College, Jammu and associated hospitals, the Minister for Medical Education, Mr R .S Chib assured to provide all possible assistance to improve medicare to provide round-the- clock service to the public.

The Minister, speaking at a meeting of Head of Departments, GMC, Jammu convened under his chairmanship last evening, emphasized on working in a coordinated and systematic manner. He sought the cooperation of medical and para medical staff to upgrade the patient delivery system.

Commissioner/Secretary Health and Medical Education, Mr Atal Dullu, SSP Jammu, Mr Manohar Singh and HODs were present.

Interacting with the officers, Mr. Chib underlined the need for reducing the rush of attendants and overcrowding in the hospitals which is hampering the functioning. He asked the concerned officer to make adequate and proper sitting arrangements for attendants as they should not be seen sitting on the floor anywhere in the hospital particularly, in the emergency wards.

To further improve the functioning of emergency services, Mr Chib decided to depute atleast two trainee nurses having completed two years of service to assist the staff.

Deliberating on the deficiency of medical and para medical staff in GMC, which caters to the needs of patients from across the province, Mr Chib assured to consider the issue on priority and work it out in a phased manner. He asked the doctors to discharge their duties with dedication and sincerity particularly cultivating patience and cool temperament. He assured to facilitate the doctors by redressing their grievances.

Emphasizing on strengthening the security system in hospitals, Mr. Chib said that additional police personnel would be deployed to assist the hospital security and help in maintaining discipline in the prestigious health institution. He also directed for keeping the entire vicinity clean and maintaining sanitation in wards especially the toilets.

On the occasion, the HoDs projected some of the basic issues and also gave valuable suggestions for improving the functioning of hospital. They discussed in detail the difficulties being faced by them in their respective units.

After hearing the problems projected by the HoDs, the Minister constituted a committee to suggest improvements in the working of Government Medical College and Associated Hospitals. He assured to consider each problem put forth on priority and also mitigating them in shortest time, the Minister said that after discussing the issue with Commissioner/Secretary, Health, visible improvement would be seen in work culture.
