| 350 militants camping across LOC in Poonch and Rajouri | | Troops told to open fire if movement spotted on LOC | | Early Times Report Jammu,December 18:-The Indian troops have been ordered to open fire once they spot a movement on the LOC in Jammu and Kashmir. These orders have been issued after reports reached the Army authorities that only across Poonch and Rajouri sectors more than 350 militants, most of them belonging to Lashkar-i-Toiba and Jash-e-Mohammad,have been camping on the launching pads just across the border. They have been brought alongwith small groups of militants belonging to Hizbul Mujahideen to the launching pads for infiltrating into Poonch and Rajouri sectors. Senior Army functionaries r ecently visited Poonch and Rajouri border areas and were told about the presence of groups of militants across the LOCTheir movement has ben monitored on the gadgets installed on the border.A senior Army officer today said that during the last three weeks more than six infiltration bids had been made but the alert troops foiled all the ingress attempts. In two such at tempts a couple of infiltrators had been killed forcing others to flee back to the Pak area. The Army officer who had also visited forward areas in north Kashmir said that groups of militants have been brought on the launching pads across Kupwara,Keran,Gurez,Machel and Tangdhar. He said that agencies across the border had come to know that after the Indian security forces had launched offensive,in the shape of search operations, against the militants the rebels had been pinched by loss of manpower. To makeup this shortcoming these agencies have intensified their efforts for pushing groups of militants into Jammu and Kashmir.Since these agencies know that the border routes may become impassable soon after the forward belts were buried under snow within next two to three weeks they try to take advantage of the dry spell for assisting militants in infiltrating into Jammu and Kashmir. The official sources said that following massive military campaign against terrorists in various parts of Pakistan groups of militants, belonging to Lashkar-i-Toiba,Jash-e-Mohammad and Hizbul Mujahideen have started camping on the border for infiltrating into Jammu and Kashmir which could help them escape elimination in the hands of the Pakistani troops. The sources said that another purpose of giving a push to the rate of infiltration was to escalate the level of violence so that separatists, especially those belong to the moderate camp, were forced to reject the offer of talks made by New Delhi. They said that the recent attack on Sheikh Aziz,a senor leader of the Hurriyat Conference, was a preplanned step for preventing separatists from accepting the offer for talks. The sources said that Al Nasreen militant group, which claimed responsibility for the attack on Sheikh Aziz, actually comprised activists belonging to Lashkar-i-Toiba.They said that this change in nomenclature was being carried out simply to confuse the security and intelligence agencies. It is in this coext that the troops guarding the border have been directed to remain vigilant on the LOC and ensure that not a single soul was able to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir. They have been told that tot al check on infiltration would mean speedy end to militancy rlated violence in Jammu and Kashmir.(eom) |
