| Omar’s statement demanding debate on autonomy ‘political arrogance’: PK | | Cross sections of society out rightly reject Sagir’s report: Chrungoo | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 7- Taking strong point of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s demand of initiating discussion on Autonomy as recommended by the Justice (Retd) Saghir Ahmed, Panun Kashmir pointed out that statement smacks of ‘political arrogance’ as the major political groups and organizations and the nationalist forces of the state have already opposed autonomy as suggested in the controversial recommendations of the Working Group. Talking to media persons here today, President Panun Kashmir Ashwani Chrungoo said the Chief Minister’s statement that the proposal of Autonomy would be taken up with the Central government is in contravention of the stand taken by the Central Cabinet of the erstwhile NDA government of which he was a part at that time. He said the last fortnight has seen massive opposition and protest demonstrations on the streets of the Jammu province involving cross sections of the civil society. The stance of the Chief Minister suggests that the government intends to open dialogue with the Kashmir centric parties who have been professing self-rule and autonomy as the main political agenda of their organizational manifestoes, he added. Panun Kashmir rejects any such proposal that has the potential to weaken the constitutional and political relationship of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of India, declared Chrungoo. He said the recent terrorist attack at Lal Chowk, Srinagar is a very serious development keeping in view the recent utterances of the political leaders of the Centre and the State that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir was fast returning to normal. This development confirms the statements issued by the security experts and the official authorities that withdrawal of forces would have serious implications, he pointed out. He said the security concerns expressed by various important security agencies regarding the infiltration bids of trained terrorists from across the border were ignored willfully. It is all the more a serious issue that Pakistan based terror groups and terrorists were seen involved in the dastardly actions at Srinagar along with the local accomplices on the one hand and on the other pressure is being mounted on Indian State to open composite dialogue process with Pakistan. ‘We caution the government of India to reassess and reconsider its approach towards the political and security concerns regarding Jammu and Kashmir State’, he added. He said that PK has decided to call an urgent and special meeting of the Executive Council on Sunday to deliberate on the issues of utmost concern and finalize the next course of action. Virender Raina, National Spokesperson, Ravinder Punjabi, Secretary, Media Committee and Rajan Kotru activist in Nepal were also present on the occasion.
