| Sham interacts with fruit growers | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, JANUARY 10 – Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture Mr. Sham Lal Sharma today interacted with the Fruit Growers of Jammu district, who returned Jammu after completing 7-day study tour outside the State. The study tour was organized by the Department of Horticulture Jammu under Horticulture Technology Mission Programme. Director Horticulture, Jammu Mr. J. L. Sharma, Chief Horticulture officer, Jammu besides other officers were present on the occasion.
While interacting with the farmers, the Minister assured that all the required steps will be initiated for taking up Aloa-era cultivation in subtropical areas of Jammu division. He advised them to take benefit from all the developmental schemes and programmes so that the horticulture production in Jammu can be increased and the socio-economic conditions of the farmers especially those living in the far-flung areas can be improved.
During the tour the farmers and fruit growers visited Central Institute for Sub-tropical Horticulture (CISH) at Luckhnow and interacted with the renowned scientists and experts of this premier institutes and learnt the latest techniques being developed for the production of sub-tropical fruit plants like Mango, Gauva, Aonla and Ber.
At Central Institute for Medicinal and Aromatics Plants (CIMAP), Lukhnow which is a premier institute in the country where lot of research work on sub-tropical and intermediate medicinal and aromatic plants has been carried out, the farmers had the opportunity of interacting with the scientists and learnt the latest techniques developed by the institute for cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants. Farmers showed keen interest in Aloa-vera cultivation.
Farmers had the opportunity of visiting Abdullah Nursery of Padam Shri Haaji Kareem Ullah where more than 360 verities of mango are grafted on a single plant.
