Bakaya releases special number on Kemu

Jammu, Jan 11- Former state chief secretary and member Legislative Council, Vijay Bakaya released Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi’s journal Chayanut’s special number on noted theatre personality and playwright Moti Lal Kemu at KL Saigal Hall on Monday.
The function, which began in afternoon hours, saw former Secretary Cultural Academy, Prof. Neelamber Dev Sharma, Secretary Academy, Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, noted playwright Moti Lal Kemu and editor Chayanut Ravinder Nath Bohre in the presidium.
Former chief secretary, Vijay Bakaya was the chief guest while Prof. ND Sharma presided over the function.
In his welcome address Secretary Cultural Academy, Zaffar Iqbal Manhas appreciated the Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi for bringing out a special number of Chayatnut on Moti Lal Kemu.
Hailing the contributions of Kemu, Zaffar said that it was because of the efforts of people like Kemu that the Kashmiri Band Pather tradition could be kept alive. Describing Kemu as a multifaceted personality, he said that Kemu not only infused a new life into Kashmiri theatre but also showed others the way to do so.
While delivering the presidential address, Prof. Neelamber Dev Sharma appreciated the state Cultural Academy and the UP Sangeet Natak Akademi for holding the said function in honour of the noted playwright and theatre personality Moti Lal Kemu.
Vijay Bakaya who also spoke on the occasion lauded the Cultural Academy for organizing such functions. He said that state institutions like the Cultural Academy should also bring out special numbers of their own on contemporary personalities of repute so that people could benefit from their life experiences.
Moti Lal Kemu, editor Chayanut, Ravinder Bohre and Hasrat Gadda also spoke on the occasion.
Narrating his own experiences Kemu said that when he began his theatre career, the profession was looked down upon but now it wasn’t so. He also predicted a bright future for Kashmiri theatre.
