Several organisations,institutes celebrate Lohri

Jammu, Jan 13:
Several organisations and schools celebrated Lohri festival with great enthusiasm and gaiety at various places here today.
The Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) celebrated “Lohri” in the premises of Sabha where a large number of prominent members of the society and heads of various sabhas, social and religious organization participated. On the occasion speakers threw light on the festival and extended felicitations to the people on the auspicious occasion and also prayed for the peace and prosperity of the state.
President DSS Gulchain Singh Charak also congratulated the people of Jammu in maintaining communal harmony and prayed for the brotherhood, peace and harmony and urged for celebration of festivals with gaiety and enthusiasm.
The people’s association for social reforms and justice (PASJ) a social organization, continuing with its objective of doing selfless services to society organized a function at SOS home for children at Channi Rama on the occasion of festival of Lohri, the most secular and vibrant festival of north India. On the occasion a bonfire was lit and among the children moongphali, gajak, phulliyan and other eatables especially meant for the occasion were distributed. Speaking on the occasion, JS Rissam chairman of PASJ said that these children are the future of our nation and people should come forward to help them. He also assured that PASJ is always ready to help these children in future also. Sandeep Singh, president of PASJ was also present and thanked SN Sharma, secretary of SOS home, who gave PASJ a chance to serve the children. All members of the PASJ including Anirudh Gupta, Satwant Singh, Arminder Singh, Jagjyot Singh, Raghav, Rajinder Kumar, Jagan, Varun and others were present on the occasion.
Datti Todi Memorial Convent School Ratnal Bishnah celebrated the festival of Lohri with fervour among the students and the staff. On the occasion, Principal of the school Sunita Bangotra highlighted the significance of Lohri festival, its relevance in Dogra culture and need to generate awareness among the younger generation. The students celebrated Lohri with quite enthusiasm and zeal burning the fire wood in traditional manner. Popular folk Lohri songs and dance was the main attraction of the Lohri celebrations. Moongfali, gajak, phulliyan and other eatable items were distributed among the students.
Regretting that despite free flow of funds from the Centre, Prof Bhim Singh JKNPP Supremo has said that the state has failed to provide social security, health care and even basic amenities of life like drinking water, fodder to the cattle in the villages.
Interacting with a group of 50 childhood friends in his ancestral village where he was born 69 years back he said that majority of the villages in the state, despite 63years of Independence, have not reaped the fruits of democracy and are yet to get road connectivity, safe drinking water and electricity.
Prof. Singh celebrated the Lohri festival with his childhood friends in the village. He was accompanied by the party president Balwant Singh Mankotia MLA Udhampur, his elder brother Sub. Jagan Singh, his younger sister Ganeshi Devi and several others.
Prof Singh also congratulated his childhood friends and associates including Kamlu Masha. who used to graze cattle sheep and goats from 1950-1953 in the village.
District Jammu BJP, under its president Rajesh Gupta, today celebrated Lohri festival at party headquarters
The participants at the celebration took oath for fighting against the evil designs of the government, especially against report of Justice Saghir Ahmed and termed the celebration as occasion to pledge to fight for total integrity and abrogation of Article-370. The BJP leaders and the activists present of the occasion further pledged for Zero tolerance against anti-national forces and anti-national elements within and outside the government. The celebration ended after lightening fire.
Lions Club Jammu Royal celebrated Lohri festival with the children of Bal Viraj School at Nagrota on 13 January 2010.
Bal Viraj, a school of children of slums and very poor families like laborers, baggers, Gujjar, Bakerwal who can’t afford to send their ward to school and is run by a widow lady Raj Bharti from her pension. School is in very pitiable condition, needs great attention and assistance of the public.
MK Dwivedi, deputy commissioner Jammu was the chief guest and Lion Amit Jandyal, President Lions Club Jammu Royal guest of honour.
In the welcome address Lion Amit Jandyal appreciated the presence of MK Dwivedi in the function and highlighted the achievements of the club in the current year. He also gave assurance to the principal of the school to further contribute and give full assistance to the principal of the school to further contribute and give full assistance to the school in the future also.
MK Dwivedi, deputy commissioner, appraise the role of Bharti and assured of all possible help from the government.
Cultural programs depicting different values of the society were presented by the students of the school.
Members of Lion Club donated school uniforms and shawls for 140 students of the school and distributed sweets, fruits, copies, pencil and other items required for their daily use.
Bharti thanked Dwivedi for sparing the time to boost the moral of inmates of the school and also thanked club members for their contribution towards running of this school on regularly basis. She said that very few organizations like lion club some forward to help the poor students.
The prominent among present were Lion Rajesh Gupta, Lion Devinder Gupta, Lion Rajinder Gupta and members from Education department.
