Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 6: Rejecting the appeal of Pahari leaders to back their demand for grant of ST status to them, Jammu and Kashmir Gujjar Bakerwal Joint Forum (JKGBJF) today warned both state and central governments against any such move aimed at to dilute the tribal status of nomadic communities by entering a “linguistic group- speaking western Pahari ” into “Tribal amalgam”. The state president of JKGBJF, a frontal tribal organisation, Haji Shamsher Ali Boken today said that Pahari speaking people are already getting 90% share in employment in Poonch, Rajouri districts for the last 62 years but now some vested interest people including Poonch -Rajouri based Pahari politicians who are bent upon to weaken the “Tribal status ”of Gujjars who are Scheduled Tribe since 1991. Haji further warned that if anybody from Gujjar community found anywhere supporting the cause of Pahari speaking people for grant of ST status would be expelled from community as this act is equivalent to suicide for Gujjars. JKGBJF president further claimed that Paharis do not suffer any economic backwardness and social stigma as well which is the most important condition to declare a particular class of people as Scheduled Tribe. He also added that Paharis are already enjoying reservation under three different categories i.e. RBA, ALC and OBC in different areas. Those who attended the meeting included Rafiq Chouhan, Sarwar Choudhary Goolvi, Abdul Karim Terwa, Slam Din, Kher Din, Ilam Din Banbasya.
