| BJP gears up for local bodies’ polls | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 6 In view of the forthcoming local bodies’ elections and to take stock of the preparations made so far for the scheduled rally against rising prices on February 9, the state unit of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has started a campaign to mobilize its workers and supporters. During the last three days, State BJP President Shamsher Singh Manhas alomg with Mayor Kavinder Gupta and District President Rajesh Gupta have chaired about 61 meetings of the booth level activists of Jammu East, Janipur, Talab Tillo, Gandhi Nagar and Satwari mandals of the party. Addressing meetings at these places, Shamsher Singh Manhas said that the forthcoming elections of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) are of great significance for the party and the party activists have to put more efforts to ensure the victory of BJP candidates. BJP president said that the party will take out a massive rally on 9th February to register its protest against the failure of the government to control the prices of essential commodities. He asked the party activists to reach the masses, educate them about the anti-people policies of the government and ensure their participation in the February 9 programme. In his address, Kavinder Gupta said that the JMC lacks full powers besides a number of departments which ought to be under JMC, have not been transferred to it despite repeated assurances. He said the Srinagar Municipal Corporation has 65 wards while JMC has 71 wards but unfortunately as far as allocation of funds is concerned Kashmir is given preferential treatment, which is yet another example of discrimination with Jammu. Yudhvir Sethi, Sat Sharma, Shiv Kumar Gupta, Pushpa Wazir, Arun Khosla, Parduman Singh, Sunil Dogra, Vikram Randhawa, Vinay Gupta and all the Corporators of BJP were among those who attended these meetings.
