| Extension lecture on RTI in GDC Bishnah | | |
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 19: Government Degree College Bishnah today organised an extension lecture in collaboration with Centre for Adult, Continuing Education & Extension University of Jammu on “Right To Information in J&K”. The extension lecture was a part of the initiative taken by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to bring transparency and accountability in the functioning of administration of the State. This college is the first one to host the lecture on the important issue, ‘RTI’. The main resource person Syed Junaid Hashmi from UMEED-RTI Initiative while speaking on the occasion elaborated the concept of RTI with special reference to J&K. He also dewelt upon the problems and impediments that come across while seeking information and the solutions there of. Earlier, Professor Veena Pandita, Principal of the college while welcoming the guests elaborated that RTI has an important economic dimension, as it embraces not only political freedom but also the freedom to lead a life with dignity, unfettered by domination and discrimination. She expressed gratitude to Professor Poonam Dhawan, Director CACEE and her team for her genuine interest in percolating the benefit of extension lectures in rural and semi-urban areas. Among others the lecture was also attended by Ashok Sharma, Principal Government Higher Secondary School Bishnah (Boys) and the staff. Prof. Kiran Pathania conducted the proceedings of the programme and also presented vote of thanks.
