| Watermill owner bludgeoned to death near Tikri | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 26: In a murder committed in the spirit of revenge, a watermill owner was bludgeoned to death by two brothers at Jungle Gali, a remote Tikri village in Trikuta Hills of Katra, Thursday night. Prabhu Ram (29) was inside his watermill at Jungle Gali with his wife sleeping beside him when water entered their shed all of a sudden at about 8.45 pm.He immediately came out to find out the reason. While he was checking the stream that flowed through the mill, some people, who were hiding there under the cover of darkness, hit him on the head with a bludgeon. Hearing his screams, his wife rushed out but only to find him writhing with pain in a pool of blood. He died before he could be shifted to hospital, police sources said. Jungle Gali, which is about 36 km off the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, falls under the jurisdiction of Tikri police post. A police party led by the police post incharge, Sub-Inspector Amar Chand Bhagat reached Jungle Gali this morning. Sources said Prabhu's wife told police that she had seen in the light of her cellphone two men running from the spot. She said she was unable to recognise them in the dark. While examining the spot, police found that the stream course had been changed by the assailants by placing a log at the point from where water entered the watermill. When they did so, the water overflowed and entered the mill shed.Sources said the accused knew that once the water entered the dry area inside the mill shed, Prabhu would come out to correct the water course. They wanted to kill him outside the shed as they did not want to be seen by his wife, the sources added. After completing legal formalities, police shifted the body to the mortuary of primary health centre, Tikri, where post-mortem was conducted on it. Later, it was handed over to his family members for last rites.During the course of investigation, police came to know that Prabhu had an ememity with one Puran Chand of his village and had inflicted serious injuries on him in the recent past.Sources said when the police party went to Puran's house, his two sons -- Prakash and Babu Ram -- were found missing. A tip-off led cops to their hideout in the village from where they were taken into custody, the sources added.During sustained questioning, the duo allegedly confessed to have murdered Prabhu as they were thirsting for revenge after he had beaten their father. They were then arrested and shifted to the Tikri police post. A case under sections 452, 323, 326 of RPC stands registered against them..
