PDP MLA roughed up | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, May 14: The Legislature Party of Peoples Democratic Party has expressed anguish over the bizarre display of power and authority by a contingent of traffic personnel at Bakhshi Stadium crossing yesterday in which they assaulted PDP's senior leader and MLA Zahoor Ahmamd Mir representing Pampore constituency in Legislative Assembly. After an emergency meeting headed by party president, Mehbooba Mufti at her residence today a group of MLA's briefed press at party head quarters in Srinagar today. They include Parliamentary secretary, Nizamudin Bhat, Mohd Khali Bandh, Javaid Mustafa Mir, Zahoor Ahmed Mir, Abdul Razaq Zawoora and Dr Mohd Shafi. Talking to the media persons here, Nizamudin Bhat said that the Member who has met the unfortunate incident approached the Speaker with a privilege motion who has taken cognizance and issued summons to the erring officials of traffic including a DySP and an ASI besides some constables involved in the incident. Bhat alleged that the member was humiliated and put to disgrace with no regard for civilized behaviour, privilege and rule of law. He said such incidents undermine the individual dignity and respect of the institution and should have such be taken seriously. Bhat reposing confidence in the speaker who is now seized with the issue hoped that stern action will be taken with the erring officials. Bhat said that while the member was put to risk of life after the assault as the assailants also took away his car and the car has yet not been returned.
