CMs favourite huts without water, electricity | DKG Eco-Tourism huts lacking basic facilities for tourists | | EARLY TIMES REPORT RAJOURI, May 14: Though Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has announced to divert tourist influx of Kashmir to Dehra-Ki-Gali area of Rajouri, Eco-Tourism huts inaugurated by him on last Wednesday lack all basic facilities putting question mark on the comfortable stay of tourists in these huts which were termed as 'most beautiful structures' by the Chief Minister recently. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday inaugurated Eco-Tourism Facility (ETF) at Dehra-KI- Gali area on Rajouri and Poonch middle point on Mughal Road where he announced to divert tourist influx of Kashmir towards this area but these ETF huts lack water and electricity facility. Power Development Department and Public Health Engineering department have admitted the non availability of these basic facilities in the area. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah accompanied by Forest Minister Mian Altaf and Minister of State for Forest Shabir Ahmed Khan had inaugurated Eco-Tourism Facility at Dehra Gali on Mughal Road. Omar on the occasion said that he wanted to divert tourists towards this place but the irony is that the tourists' infrastructure constructed by the government for tourists lack basic facilities like water and electricity which has put question mark on the scope of tourism in the area. To impress Chief Minister, sources said that forest department had arranged two water tankers one each from Rajouri and Poonch to the venue of function. But on ground, the area lacks these facilities at all. "There is no water supply line or electricity line existing in the area", sources said adding that this will lessen the scope of tourist influx in the area. Forest department has constructed beautiful huts in the area which may attract tourists but how they can stay there without water and electricity is a big question for achieving the mission of starting eco-tourism in the area. Water facility from the ETF huts is available at 11kilometer distance while electric lines have reached at 15 kilometer distance from this area. Sources said that neither PDD have made any proposal to connect the area with electric lines nor there is any such plan with PHE to construct supply lines. Both these departments are waiting requests from forest departments. When contacted, Executive Engineer PHE, Rajouri Swaran Singh admitted "Yes there is no water facility at the place where Chief Minister on yesterday inaugurated ETF huts for tourists". He however said that if forest department will approach them, they can initiate work on it. He said that an approximate cost of Rs 11 crore will require for this propose to supply water to these huts. He added that water source is available at 11 kilometer from this area and it needed about 1 crore for each kilometer to install pipelines. Executive Engineer PDD Maqbool Choudhary has also admitted non availability of electricity facility in Eco-Tourism Facility. He is also waiting request from Forest department. "We have not received any communication from forest regarding installing any electric lines to the area", he said adding that they can initiate work only after the request of the concerned department. He said that they need an approximate amount of Rs 52 lakh to provide special feeder to the area.
