Dalhousie-Chamba trekking from June 15

JAMMU, May 15: The Dalhousie-Chamba Himalayan Trekking Programme, the most popular adventure activity of school children during summer vacations, organized by Tawi Trekkers, J&K for the last 16 years, shall start from June six this year. It shall be followed by Kullu-Manali Himalayan Trekking Programme from June15.
However, this year, the Club has restricted participation in the Dalhousie-Chamba and Kullu-Manali programmes to 500 and 200 students respectively.
This was stated by the general secretary of Tawi Trekkers, Ram Khajuria while interacting with Sports & Allied News, here today.
The 4-day Dalhousie-Chamba trekking, which is being conducted in the Sylvan surroundings of Kalatop and Khajjiar meadows with a night stay at Dalhousie, Khajjiar and the historical town of Chamba, promises a life time experience to the participants.
"During the Kullu-Manali Programme the participants would visit Rohtang Pass (13400ft) Solang, the famous ski resort; Bijli Mahadev near Kullu where lightening strikes the Shiva Lingam every year; Manikaran, famous for hot water springs, Macleodganj, the seat of Dalai Lama, Dharamshalla and Chamunda Devi. Besides, they would also trek to the most enchanting Jogni waterfall. A visit to Atal Behari Bajpai Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports, Manali would be another attraction," informed Mr Khajuria.
Both the trekking programmes are meant for boys and girls in the age group of 10 to 14 years, in order to initiate them into outdoor adventurous life and to bring out the best in them during the trek. However, the trekkers shall be accompanied by experts in the field who shall supervise all their activities.
The programmes are being organized in cooperation and coordination with Mountaineering Association of J&K, Ibex Adventure Club and Snow Trail Mountaineers, Jammu. Whereas, Amit Khajuria of Snow Trail Mountaineers, Jammu is the Field Director of Dalhousie Chamba Programme, Sonam Sidharth shall head the Kullu Manali trek as the Field Director.
The camp leaders and group leaders include national sport climbers Bhanu Partap Singh, Suraj Singh Plathia, Anil Kumar, Puneet Sharma and Shawetica Khajuria.
It may be mentioned here that Tawi Trekkers, J&K is a voluntary and social service organization run by a band of dedicated young boys and girls whose only aim is to spread the spirit of adventure and love of nature amongst all strata of society without distinction of colour, caste, class or creed.
