| URDU play "Ger Zaroori Log" staged | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 15: A play based on Sadaut Hussain Manto's urdu Short-story "Ger Zaroori Log" was today staged at Abhinav theatre here this evening. The play was directed by eminent theatre director Mushtaq Kak and it was a presentation of Amateur Theatre Group (ATG), a pioneer theatre group of the state who have proved its worth with scintillating performances of long plays includes Andha Yug, Devyani, Marakhey, Pritibhimb, Garak Ho Raha Manukh, Babu Ji, Urubhangam. Mushtaq Kak while speaking about the play said that this long play has been designed and directed by using the state of the art theatre techniques. He said that this play was based on a popular short story of Urdu by Sadaut Hussain Manto. Prior to this, he said, we have staged 15 plays and short play based on Manto's stories. About theatre he said the group has always believed in offering something new to theatre goers whether its stylized productions or presenting mega mythological play like Andha Yug at the stairs cum platform of Mubarak Mandi, Jammu.
Kak said "Gair Zarooroi Log stirs the collective memory through the memory of Sadaut Hassan Manto to locate a specific political, social and cultural setting where an artist and his creations, both turn into the persona non-grata.
