Early Times Report
RAJOURI, May 15: An air of rage and tension gripped this hilly town today after the news spread that seven bags containing decayed human bodies were lying outside the gynae ward of the district hospital here.
Hospital authorities, however, said it could be placenta in bags which smelt like decayed human bodies.
The unbearable smell first attracted the attention of people living n the close vicinity of the hospital. Some of them gathered inside the hospital premises and then decided to find out the the source of the repulsive smell.
Soon they discovered seven blood-stained bags outside the gynae ward. As the news spread that the bags could be having the bodies of new born babies, tension and anger gripped the town. People started reaching the hospital to have a view of the bags.
However, before the situation could take an ugly turn, some elderly people dug a cave in the hospital premises and buried all the bags in it.
Nisar Ahmad, a local, said though the bags were not opened, they could be containing the bodies of new born babies. Bittu Shah, a businessman, said all those, who had gathered in the hospital, had decided to bury the bags in a common grave. The Rajouri police station SHO Kewal Sharma, however, said the hospital administration had told him that the bags contained "delivery" waste in them. Chief medical officer (CMO), Rajouri, Dr Vaid Sharma said, "I do not know about the matter as I am in Jammu in connection with a meeting."
Hospital supreintendent, Dr Zahoor Shawl was too in Jammu to attend a meeting. Another officer said the blood-stained bags could be having placenta in them. Police had launched a probe into the incident.
