NC, Cong leaders stay away from Pahari conference: TUF | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 15: The Jammu Kashmir Tribals United front (TUF) which is strongly opposing the ST status to Pahari speaking people today warned the leaders of both and centre to stay away from proposed Pahari conference to be held on May 17 at Rajouri. As per press release, organization while reacting sharply to the reports that top leadership of both Indian National Congress and National Conference are attending the conference, the forum have appealed Rahul Gandhi, and Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz, JK PCC chief, Omar Abdullah chief minister to remain away from this highly conference which otherwise will drag them to serious controversies. This forthcoming pahari conference according to the JK Tribals is misleading the government and will have serious percussion on the scheduled tribes and other ethnic groups of the J&K State. State chief of TUF Roshan Din Choudhary, while addressing a meeting said that this conference is being organized by some vested interests to compel the government to grant scheduled tribe to the pahari speaking people, a linguistic group which didn't even qualify for the other backward classes (OBC) as per the recommendations given by the certain commission from time to time. He further said that the Scheduled Tribes of J&K would strongly oppose any such move which would infringe in to their rights. It is very unfortunate about the no heed is being paid to the agony of tribals and day after day their miseries are deepen further, he lamented. General Secretary, TUF Zabeer Ahmed Bajjar, said that their Forum has already apprised Rahul Gandhi, Prof. Saif-Ud-Din Soz, and Omar Abdullah that Paharis were neither defined as a weaker section and nor they approached before the Gajendragadkar Commission, the Sikri Commission, the Wazir Commission (1969), the Anand Commission (1976) and the Mandal Commission which covered the entire country. Tanwir Ahmed, Mohd. Sadiq Azad, Haq Nawaz Choudhary, Karam Chand, Khursheed-Ul-Islam and Molvi Mohd. Akram were among these also spoke on the occasion.
