BJP's nationalism sham, may compromise on J&K

RUSTAM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 17: BJP says day in and day out that it is committed to abrogating Article 370 of the Indian Constitution under which J&K enjoys a special status in the Indian Union and integrating J&K fully with New Delhi. It also consistently says that it is committed to protecting the interests of Jammu and Ladakh and displaced Kashmiri Pandits. The BJP, in addition, says everyday that it would not allow New Delhi to conclude any truce with Pakistan over J&K and that it would also oppose any move that is aimed at dividing Jammu province along Chenab river on communal lines. In other words, the BJP consistently says that it would accept only that solution to the Kashmir issue that doesn't give any concession to Pakistan and that doesn't give any concession to politics based on communalism.
BJP is not committed to any of these formulations. Instead, it is treading a path that leads to the recognition of the politics of separatism, based on religious fanaticism; virtual separation of J&K from India; and destruction of the people of Jammu and Ladakh, displaced Kashmiri Pandits and religious and ethnic minorities like the Gujjar and Bakerwal Muslims.
That the BJP is befooling the people of Jammu and Ladakh and the persecuted religious and ethnic minorities and that it is all out to appease not only Pakistan but also the Kashmir-based separatists and communalists could be seen from what one of its national spokespersons Tarun Vijay said in Kashmir only the other day.
What did not and did Tarun Vijay say in Kashmir? He did not utter a single word on the Kashmiri leadership's tirade against the Army and paramilitary forces. He did not say a single word against those demanding greater autonomy, self-rule, merger with Pakistan, independence, economic independence, dual currency and India-Pakistan joint-control over J&K. He did not say a single word on those involved in stone pelting. He did not say a single word on the increase in the number of infiltration bids from across the border/Actual Line of Control. He did not say a single world on the circumstances under which the Kashmiri Pandits quit their homes and hearths in January 1990 to become refugees in their own country. He did not utter a single word in support of the demands being put forth by the displaced Kashmiri Pandits - demands ranging from separate homeland in the Valley to a security zone within the Valley to the Union Territory status to a system under which Indian Constitution flows freely in the Kashmir Valley.
The BJP national spokesperson did not even once talked about the miserable plight of the people of Jammu province, who are fed up with the Kashmiri domination and who want to shape, mould and control fully their political future under the Indian Constitution. Nor did he say that the ignored and discriminated against people of Jammu province, Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs included, need to be empowered through some definite political instrument and compensated for the losses they have suffered thus far at the hands of the Valley leadership.
Tarun Vijay, who is also an ideologue of the RSS and who edited the RSS's journal for years, did not utter a single word on the problems being faced by the people of Ladakh, who stand for separation from Kashmir and want to have the status of Union Territory for their strategic trans-Himalayan region. He did not utter a single word against the surrender and rehabilitation policy under which the Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir-based trained and indoctrinated militants of Kashmir origin would be rehabilitated and rewarded with jobs. He did not talk about the plight of the refugees from West Pakistan, refugees from Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir and border migrants of 1965 and 1971.
The BJP national spokesperson did not even once contest the Justice Saghir Ahmad report that recommends autonomy for J&K. He did not say a single word against Article 370. He did not question any of the reports emanating from Pakistan that India and Pakistan have already worked out a solution to the Kashmir issue and that it is only a matter of days when that solution would be implemented.
