Music brought us to spirituality: Srinivasan, Shalini Art of living's Sri Sri week concludes | | | Sandeep Bhat Early Times Report Jammu, May 17: The art of living is a multifaceted, humanitarian NGO with a presence in over 140 countries. Founded in 1982 by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the art of living today is one of the largest voluntary organizations in the world. Inspired by its founder's vision of making the world a violence-free, stress-free global family, the organization is engaged in various initiative that uplift humanity and enhance the quality of life. This was disclosed by Srinivasan and Shalini, both internationally renow-ned singers of art of living in an interaction with Early Times special correspondent at Early Times office in Jammu. Srinavasan and Shalini further said that the goal of the organization is to bring peace at the level of the individual, society, nation and the world as a whole. Its areas of work cover conflict resolution, disaster and trauma relief, poverty alleviation, empowerment of women, prisoner rehabilitation, education for all, campaigns against female foeticide and child labour and environment sustainability. Guided by Sri Sri's philosophy of peace, "Unless we have a stress-free mind and a violence free society, we cannot achieve world peace, "the art of living offers several stress-elimination and self development programme based mainly on breathing techniques, meditation and yoga. These programmes have helped thousands around the world to overcome depression and violent and suicidal tendencies. Srinivasan and Shalini, who were in Jammu for a week performed at different places like Abhinav theatre(Jewel), Shakti Nagar, Miran Sahib, Channi Himmat, Kaluchak and Kathua town during the week, which were attended by large number of people of these areas, besided the art of living followers. The programme in the majestic environs of heritage Mubarak Mandi compound and later at Abhinav theatre were the high points of week. The aura of blissfulness and divinity created during these programme was unparalleled. Both Srinivasan and Shalini have brought up in Karnataka originally hailing from Kerala and have spend seventeen years under the guidance of Shri Satya Sai Baba at Puttaparthy. Basic guidance in music from J. Krishnamurthy, spend seven years from 1993 to 2000 and has learned all kinds of music including Karnatak, Hindustani and Western. Music brought us to spirituality said Shalini and Srinivasan and in 1997 joined Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Ji's art of living and are serving the humanity. The couple has travelled different countries of the world and the visit to the state of Jammu and Kashmir was their first visit and were enthralled to see the response from the people. The week long celebration came to close today with the Bhajan sandhaya which was organized by the art of living Jammu chapter in association with Chenab Textile Mills, Kathua, in the mill premises today. Shalini and Srinivas, an internationally renowned artist couple, who regaled the Jammu city with their performance during the last week, mesmerized jam-packed auditorium with their beautiful bhajans. The audience was simply ecstatic upon rendition of beautiful bhajans like 'Achutam Keshvan krishan Demodaram' "Tumse Jo Jori", Satnam Wahe Guru, "Gopallal Gopala" etc. The event was the last in series of programmes held during the Sri Sri week to celebrate the birthday of Sri Sri Ravishankarji.
