Sethi appointed spl public prosecutor | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 18: The government has ordered the appointment of former additional advocate general Anil Sethi as special public prosecutor in a murder case. The order to this effect was issued today by the law department secretary G H Tantray. Narsingh Dev Jamwal of Toph Sherkhania -- a timber trader -- was shot dead in 1995 by six persons -- Mohammad Akhtar, Shafiq Ahmad, Mohammad Sadiq, Tanveer, Mushtaq Ahmad and Mohammad Muzaffar -- at Ladhwal Morh in Batote in the wee hours of July 2 morning. While Akhtar, Shafiq and Sadiq were arrested and convicted by court on June 8, 2004, Tanveer, Mushtaq and Muzaffar were absconding. Police sources said the absconders had now been arrested and put behind the bars. All the accused were alleged to be timber smugglers. Since it was Sethi who had contested Narsingh's case in the court from 1995 to 2004 when three of the accused were convicted, the government today appointed him special public prosecutor in the case. On the fateful night, Narsingh was sleeping in a Maruti car along with his friend Praveen when the accused had appeared on the scene at about 2.30 am. While Praveen had managed to escape, the accused had shot dead Narsingh using AK rifle and pistols. He had gone to Batote to buy timber.
